JWU Women’s Cross Country Picked Ninth in Preseason Coaches’ Poll

AVE MARIA, Fla. (Aug. 21, 2018) --- Southeastern University has been picked to repeat as The Sun Conference champions in the preseason women's cross country poll. The Fire won their first Sun Conference Championship in women's cross country last season, placing six runners in the top 14 in the event held at Ave Maria.

In a poll of the league's head coaches, Southeastern earned four of the nine first place votes, and was picked either first or second by every coach. The Fire return reigning conference champion Kelsi Ogilvie, as well as Second Team All-Conference selections Raeanna Pabon and Kristen Robinson.

SCAD-Savannah, who is led by returning First Team All-Sun Conference runner Lemi Wutz, was placed first on two ballots and comes in second. St. Thomas also earned two first place votes, and came in third. The Bobcats return two First Team runners in Sarah Bomkamp and Susana Gutierrez.

Ave Maria follows in fourth, with Webber International and Keiser coming in fifth and sixth, respectively. USCB earned one first place vote, and sits in seventh. Warner and Johnson & Wales round out the preseason poll in eighth and ninth.

The 2018 Sun Conference Cross Country Championship will be hosted by Southeastern at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Fla., on Nov. 3.
